Part 2: Winter RV Comfort and Safety - Spring Time Update

Well the sun is shining bright here in Steamboat Springs, CO but a quick glance at the weather will tell you that winter is far from over. For those of us that live in cold climates, we’re used to snow well into April. We received our fair share of snow this season but boy does it melt fast when the sun comes out.

We thought this was a good time to give an update on our custom snow-melt system. Spoiler alert: it was a game changer. Our RV site faces slightly north and when water pools up it freezes and takes a long stretch of warm weather to melt. Here’s how we use the RainHarvest PRO gutter spouts to keep our spot clear of ice:

Easy peasy. We route our hoses from the RainHarvest PROs directly to 5 gallon buckets below them. We cut 1” holes in the bucket lids which fits standard garden hoses just right. The key is to also cut your hoses to just the right length. If they are too long and allowed to curl, water will stay stagnant in there and freeze up.

It’s easy to install the RainHarvest PRO gutter spouts, but if you’re looking for an even easier way to route snow-melt, check out the RainHarvest ADAPT. These silicone sleeve adapters allow you to simply slide them over your current RV gutter spouts for snowmelt or rain collection.

The Importance of Snow-melt Management:

While the winter wonderland scenery may be enchanting, the thawing snow can pose multiple threats. The accumulation of snow on your RV's roof can lead to water pooling, which, if not properly managed, can result in leaks, structural damage, and even interior issues. Daily warmups can cause consistent melting and pooling of water creating patches of ice overnight. Custom gutter spouts provide a simple yet effective way to divert snow-melt away from your RV, preserving its integrity and ensuring a more comfortable winter experience.

Benefits of the RainHarvest PRO Custom Gutter Spouts:

1. Prevent Structural Damage: By redirecting snow-melt away from your RV, custom gutter spouts help prevent the accumulation of heavy, damaging snow loads on the roof.

2. Avoid Leaks and Water Damage: Proper water management ensures that melting snow doesn't find its way into vulnerable areas of your RV, preventing leaks and water damage.

3. Preserve Aesthetics: The controlled redirection of snow-melt helps maintain the aesthetic appeal of your RV, preventing unsightly streaks or discoloration.

4. Avoid Ice Patches: Routing snow-melt away from your site keeps you and your loved ones safe. This is especially important for winter RVers staying on concrete or asphalt surfaces.

5. Enhance Winter Comfort: With a well-managed snow-melt system, you can enjoy a more comfortable winter experience inside your RV without the worry of potential damage.

Custom gutter spouts are a practical investment for RV enthusiasts seeking to navigate winter with confidence. By taking proactive measures to redirect snow-melt, you not only protect your RV from potential damage but also ensure a more enjoyable and stress-free winter adventure. As you prepare for the colder months, consider incorporating the RainHarvest PRO or RainHarvest ADAPT custom gutter spouts into your winterization routine for a worry-free and cozy travel experience.
